When using network shares in Windows you probably had this warning. it’s a common problem in windows with many unclear solutions. In this guide, you will permanently disable this message on Windows Vista, 7, 8…

First, open “Regedit.exe”… click “Start” and type “Regedit” :

Then navigate to : KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\

Set or create a new DWORD (Right Click -> New -> Dword) :
Name : “RestoreConnection”
Value : 0

Now restart your computer and the warning message should be disabled.

  1. I had the annoying “Could not reconnect all network drives” on start up and restart for ages and nothing posted seemed to help. I then saw that the Windows 10TP which I dual booted didn’t map my NAS, but added it as a Network Location, result being no annoying “Could not reconnect all network drives”. This solution obviously will not help anyone who needs a Drive Letter for their networked drive, but suits me and a few others I bet. The “Add network location wizard” is well documented on Microsoft website and others.
