In this guide, we’ll show you how to create a simple but striking Martian topper using an inexpensive Martian mask and expanding foam. The process is straightforward, requires only a few tools, and can be completed in an afternoon. Best of all, it’s lightweight, durable, and easy to customize with paint or extra details if you want to go further.
Prepare the Mask
Inspect your Martian mask for cracks or thin spots.
Tape over areas you don’t want filled (e.g., eyes, mouth).
Lightly mist the inside with water if recommended by the foam manufacturer.
Fill with Expanding Foam
Place a plastic bag or cling film inside the mask to protect it.
Shake the foam can well.
Spray a small amount of foam into the mask. Fill in layers, not all at once.
Let the foam expand and cure fully (check product instructions).
Shape and Smooth
Once hardened, trim off excess foam with a sharp knife.
Sand the surface until smooth and shaped the way you like.
Repeat trimming/sanding until the topper looks right and fits on top of your cabinet.
Finish (Optional)
